The Everest of the Seas: Vendee Globe

Denizlerin Everesti: Vendee Globe

The Vendée Globe, a solo round-the-world race held every four years, began on November 10, 2024, from the port of Les Sables-d’Olonne in France. This legendary race, which aims to circumnavigate the globe without external assistance, leaving Cape Horn, Cape Leeuwin, and Cape Horn behind, features 40 sailors from 9 countries, 6 of whom are women. The race, which is being held using IMOCA 60-class boats, features 25 boats equipped with speed-enhancing wings and 15 with a double-sided trimaran system.

This event, where male and female athletes compete on equal terms, features names from different generations, such as 65-year-old veteran Jean Le Cam and 23-year-old Violette Dorange. On the 19th day of the race, only Maxime Sorel withdrew. Among the favorites are Charlie Dalin, Thomas Ruyant, and Sébastien Simon. Simon broke the speed record by covering 615 nautical miles in 24 hours on November 26-27.

In this race that tests mental and physical endurance, completing the world tour alone is considered a great achievement. May all competitors have a smooth sail!

With gratitude to Nedim Sipahi…
