The World's Most Challenging Shipwreck Search: The Endurance Ship

Dünyanın En Zorlu Batık Arayışı: Endurance Teknesi

The world’s most challenging search for a sunken ship has come to an end!

In 1915, Captain Ernest Shackleton’s ship, the Endurance, sank in the Weddell Sea, in the icy waters of Antarctica, and had not been seen for 106 years.

On February 2, 2022, a group of researchers set out to track Shackleton’s trail using state-of-the-art equipment. The team, which departed from Cape Town aboard the research vessel “Endurance22,” was not confident that the challenging mission would yield results. Previous attempts had all ended in failure.

The exciting news for the exploration team came on March 5, 2022. The team reached the wreck of the Endurance at a depth of 3,008 meters below the surface. The 144-foot-long ship, photographed in high resolution, is still intact and surprisingly well-preserved, making it a major event in maritime history. The discovery of the legendary ship on the 100th anniversary of Ernest’s death has thrilled the maritime community.

Maritime enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the day when the ship will be raised and brought back into the light of day.
